Cheltenham College Cheltenham College

Background & Challenges

Cheltenham College is one of the most prestigious Independent schools in the country. Opened in 1841, it was the first of all the major public schools of the Victorian era. Despite the impressive sense of history, the school have always been keen to embrace new technology and a forward thinking attitude. To reflect this they wanted a cutting edge new website that would clearly differentiate between the junior and senior sections of the school, as well as maintaining a sense of the College’s history.

Solutions & Benefits

The College initially considered using an open source content management system to power their new website but on seeing a demonstration of Fluency, the School Website CMS, realised that its functionality, ease of use and the ongoing support offered the college a more robust solution.

Marketing Manager Rachel Vicary explains; "We wanted a dynamic and engaging website that would offer a window into both our Junior and Senior Schools. It was important that the independent character of each School was reflected visually in its pages while retaining synergy as Cheltenham College. The design team at School Website worked tirelessly to deliver what we wanted and clearly understood the image we were seeking to project."

"The end result is a website that looks sleek and contemporary while retaining a sense of our longstanding traditions and history. The functionality of the site is incredibly rich and the content management system gives us full control over our content which means we can now evolve it further ourselves. The whole project has been intensely exciting and rewarding, due in no small measure to School Website's consistent professionalism, guidance and above all, their extensive knowledge of both schools and websites."

Though there is a common design theme across both, you’ll see that the junior and senior sections take on a very different look and feel to appeal to the respective age groups. The result has led to increased communication between staff and students of the college as well as a much-improved online presence.
