Background & Challenges
Kirby Muxloe Primary School is a high achieving Primary School in suburban Leicester. The school wanted a new website that would show off their fun, caring, pupil-focused atmosphere in a bright and engaging way. The school celebrates its centenary in April 2010 so wanted to have the new site up well in advance to help with promoting the celebrations.
Solution & Benefits
After being inspired by a handful of sites in School Website’s portfolio, Kirby Muxloe Primary were keen for their new website to take a child-friendly approach and have a level of interactivity that would really make them stand out. Some of School Website’s best illustrators worked on the project to create a scene that incorporated the school’s castle logo, the school building itself and some very happy pupils. Clicking on the pupils takes you through to the various sections of the website but the school had the brilliant idea of recording pupils announcing the different titles so they can be heard when your mouse hovers over them. It was a great way of getting the pupils involved in the project so six of Kirby Muxloe’s best boys and girls were chosen to be recorded and immortalised on the website! They are helped out by some very hard working seagulls who look after the school noticeboard for upcoming events.
Schools will often wonder how their website should interact with their VLE and our advice is to include a link on your website that takes you straight to your logon page. These links can appear in different styles but Kirby Muxloe Primary have one of the best examples in the sunflowers you’ll find on the homepage. Use your mouse to make them grow and links will appear, not only to their VLE but also to their uniform supplier and to their local council intranet.
With the help of the school’s good ideas, the end result is a fun, visually striking and interactive website that gives a hugely welcoming feel to the school.
